Our History

Formed in June of 1945 with the merger of Holyoke Surgical Supply and Trudeau Dental Supply, Mass. Surgical Supply has been in operation within one block of the Holyoke City Hall ever since. First opened on Maple Street, the business was operated by the owner and one surgical supply man as he was called. The owner ran the retail operation while the surgical supply man, or salesman, sold and delivered to the various hospitals, physicians and customers in Western Mass. The business sold everything from surgical instruments, blood pressure equipment, sutures, and laboratory glassware, to homecare equipment, dressing, incontinent supplies to oxygen. Through the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s it was truly a unique business, taking care of many of the community’s health care needs.

The location changed in the early 1960’s due to a fire at the Maple Street location. It moved to Dwight Street across from the side door of City Hall. In 1979, the ownership of Mass. Surgical Supply changed for only the third time in 34 years. The business was moved to High Street by the new owner who did the outside sales, deliveries, and ordering while a part-time retail clerk handled the retail sales. “Where our customers send their friends” became our motto. Sales, service and rentals were our game. We added a part-time delivery driver and a part-time bookkeeper. These positions soon became full-time. In 1982, the owner purchased a building across the street from the front door of Holyoke City Hall and this remains our home today. We are proud to be a company which has faithfully served the hospitals, physicians, cities and towns, and the people of Western Massachusetts for 70 years.
